My client is a small (~60 people) City-based company building and operating control software for the energy sector specialising in demand-side response. Their client base include hospitals, banks, office buildings, shopping malls, utility companies and manufacturers.
They are currently rebuilding the server in Scala and the hardware on the Electric Imp
platform and need someone who is confident in Scala. Currently they use
principled functional code. They have some very experienced developers on the team, and have carefully built a friendly and inclusive work environment. This is a great place to develop your skills further, and a good opportunity to learn more about functional Scala.
Roles and Responsibilities
All of their developers come from an Agile background, and understanding what this means will be necessary for passing the interview process, which includes a pair-programming session.
Their new stack is deployed on AWS, and knowledge of Terraform would be nice. If you understand (or want to learn) the issues around so-called IoT deployments, debugging hardware with oscilloscopes or analysis of control algorithms, that would be welcome.
They would love a developer who can help out occasionally in other languages as needed. Electric Imp devices run Squirrel, our GUIs are written in React and Elm, and we are phasing out a bunch of legacy code written in Java and PHP.
If you know any of those, or are willing to learn one or two (they’re all easier than Scala), that would be marvellous.
