Summary of Role

The Cyber Security & 3rd Line will work alongside the Systems Support Team to protect the company by employing a range of technologies and processes to prevent, detect and manage security/cyber threats. The requirement for this role is not to be full time on Security but to be split between IT and Security. IT support 60%, Security 40%.

 

Key Responsibilities – Cyber Security & 3rd Line

 

  • Fix detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard.
  • Ensure that all ESX hosts, Windows servers and network infrastructure remain highly available and that these systems are documented and kept current
  • Ensure smooth running of VMWare/Windows Infrastructure
  • Ensure all systems remain patched and secure
  • Ensure BAU requests are addressed in a timely manner
  • Analyse, troubleshoot and resolve incidents escalated by 1st/2rd line
  • Hands on approach to cover off 3rd Line Windows 2008R2/2012 servers, MS Exchange 2010 and Network Infrastructure support across the LAN, Switches, Firewalls
  • Investigate security alerts and provide incident response
  • Monitor identity and access management, including monitoring for abuse of permissions by authorised system users
  • Liaise with stakeholders about cyber security issues and provide future recommendations
  • Generate reports for both technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders
  • Maintain an information security risk register and assist with internal and external audits relating to information security
  • Monitor and respond to ‘phishing’ emails and ‘pharming’ activity
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance and delivery of cyber security awareness training for colleagues
  • Give advice and guidance to staff on issues such as spam and unwanted or malicious emails.
  • Update and develop security policies. Develop company-wide best practices for IT security

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • The Cyber Security & 3rd Line Engineer must have strong IT skills, including knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware and security
  • An understanding of the cyber security risks associated with various technologies and ways to manage them
  • A good working knowledge of various security technologies such as network and application firewalls, host intrusion prevention and anti-virus
  • Verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, with an ability to communicate with a range of technical and non-technical team members
  • Written communication skills, for example to write technical reports

 

Desirable Skills:

  • ISO 27001 Certification
  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • NIST Framework knowledge
  • Cyber Security Experience
